2011 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting
Call for Papers

The 2011 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting will be held 24 – 28 July 2011 at the Detroit Marriott within the Renaissance Center in Detroit, Michigan, USA. This premier power engineering conference will bring together practicing power engineers and academics from all over the world. The aim of the conference is to provide an international forum for experts to promote, share, and discuss various issues and developments in the field of electrical power engineering.

The theme of the meeting is The Electrification of Transportation & the Grid of the Future

Papers are invited on all topics related to electric power and energy and especially for the Super Sessions topics with the following focus:

1: Reincarnation and Evolution of the Electric Vehicle, covering such topics as:

• What have we learned from plug-in hybrid availability?

• How will EV’s affect the grid?

• What are the emerging standards for charging and communicating with EV’s?

• How can future EV equipment change customer charging regimes?

2: Smart Grid, covering such topics as:

• How have interoperability standards changed the industry?

• What is the effect on generation?

• What are the results and status of demonstration and deployment projects?

• What is the current state of the Smart Grid integration: home area networks; advanced sensors; advanced metering infrastructure; time-of-use pricing; synchronized measurements; cyber security, etc.?

• What are the plans for addressing the future power engineering skills gap?

• What is the impact on customers?

3: Wind Power & Photovoltaic, covering such topics as:

• What is the impact on the grid, including congestion issues?

• What issues are caused by high penetration of renewable energy sources?

• How present industry standards address interconnection issues?

• What are results from unconventional equipment trials?

• What are the trends in tariffs and market rules?

4: Energy Storage, covering such topics as:

• What are near-term technologies?

• What is the impact on the grid of energy storage?

• What is needed to assure support of frequency and voltage?

• What market changes will be required for integration of storage?

5: Energy and the Environment, covering such topics as:

• What efforts are aimed at reducing consumer carbon footprint?

• What are current and proposed government energy and climate policies?

• What are the environmental impacts of energy development?

What are corporate carbon reduction strategies?

• What is the future of nuclear power?

• What are power generation air and waste issues?

Submission Requirements: Papers (maximum length 8 pages) must be prepared in accordance with the procedures outlined in the PES Authors Kit, available on the PES web site (home page URL: http://www.ieee-pes.org). Full papers must be submitted to the on-line submission and review site; a link to the site will be available from the PES home page on 1 Nov 2010. All papers must be submitted by 30 Nov 2010. Authors will be advised via email of acceptance or rejection of the paper by 28 Feb 2011. If revisions are required, authors will be notified prior to that date. At least one author of each paper must register for the meeting and pay the appropriate fee before an accepted paper will be released for publication in the 2011 PES General Meeting Proceedings or scheduled for presentation during a technical session. Presentation of an accepted paper is a requirement of publication. Any paper that is not presented at the conference will not be included in IEEE Xplore. Note: Registration deadline for authors may be earlier than the general registration deadline.
