The 2026 IEEE PES General Meeting Local Organizing Committee (LOC) and the Student Meeting Activities Subcommittee of IEEE PES Power and Energy Education Committee (PEEC) are happy to announce that there will be a Student Program at the 2026 IEEE PES General Meeting during 19-23 July, 2026 in Montreal, Canada.
The Student Program at the IEEE PES General Meeting provides a fantastic opportunity for students to take advantage of all the conference has to offer. Specifically, the program includes:
- Student registration discount
- Student Poster Session & Contest (Tuesday, 21 July from 7am – 9am)
- Student Housing Support Program
- Student Industry Faculty Luncheon and Job Fair (Wednesday, 22 July from 12pm – 3pm)
The Student Poster Session & Contest allows students to present their research, share ideas, and receive feedback from peers, faculty, and industry experts. Students also have the opportunity of being recognized with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place student poster awards in the undergraduate and graduate student categories.
The Student Housing Support Program assists with travel expenses by providing free accommodation to the students for the nights of July 19, 20, 21, and 22, 2026 at the conference hotels.
Students, industry members, and faculty are invited to attend the Student/Industry/Faculty Luncheon and Job Fair, to meet one another and network.
Applications for the Student Housing Support Program and submissions of poster abstracts for inclusion in the Student Poster Session & Contest are accepted through the online portal.
Timeline
- The deadline to apply is 1 April, 2026 (5:00 pm ET).
- Students must provide contact information of their faculty advisors, who must confirm their students’ status by 8 April, 2026 (5:00 pm ET).
- Decisions will be sent out to students by 22 April, 2026.
- Conference registration is optional at the time of application. If conditionally accepted, however, students must complete conference registration by 10 May, 2026 in order to secure their spot.
Please Note the Following:
- If you have a regular conference paper, you may also submit it for the Student Poster Contest. If you are the presenting author, you will be presenting your paper twice. Once at the Student Poster Contest on the morning of Tuesday 21 July at 7 AM, and then again at whatever session you were assigned by your technical program committee representative.
- In order to be eligible for complimentary hotel accommodations,
- You must be an IEEE PES member in good standing.
- You must submit a poster contest entry for a topic that is in the power and energy engineering field.
- You must submit your completed application by 1 April, 2026, (5:00 pm ET).
- Your faculty advisor must submit their approval by 8 April, 2026 (5:00 pm ET).
- Submission of an application is not a guarantee that you will receive hotel accommodations, which are subject to availability of both rooms and funding. Eligible entries will be scored on a range from 0 to 17 points based on the following criteria:
- Students who are an author of a regular conference get either 6 or 12 points depending on whether or not they are the presenting author.
- Students who hold an IEEE volunteer position get either 2 or 4 points depending on whether or not they hold an officer position.
- First-time PES General Meeting attendees get 1 point
Hotel support will be awarded to the highest scoring entries, with priority given to undergraduate students. Here is an example hypothetical scenario: We are able to award hotel support to everyone with a score of 6 and higher, only some of the students with a score of 5, and none of the students with a score of 4 or lower. For those students who scored a 5, a random selection will determine who receives hotel support. The actual score cutoffs will depend on the number of applicants and the availability of hotel rooms.
- If you are awarded hotel accommodations,
- You must complete conference registration by 10 May, 2026. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of your hotel accommodations award.
- You must attend the Student Poster Contest on the morning of Tuesday 21 July at 7 AM. Failure to do so may prohibit you from receiving hotel support at future PES-sponsored events such as the General Meeting, Grid Edge, and T&D.
- You will be placed in a double occupancy room with a roommate of the same gender who is randomly selected from the other awardees. No requests for single occupancy will be permitted. You cannot bring any guests with you into the room, and we cannot accommodate requests for family members.
We hope to see you in Montreal!
Sincerely,
IEEE PES Student Meeting Activities Subcommittee of PEEC

Call for Volunteer Judges:
We urgently need 2025 IEEE PES General Meeting attendees to volunteer to judge the IEEE PES Student Poster Contest on Tuesday, 29 July, from 7 am to 9 am (students are not eligible to be judges). Using an app on your phone, you will be assigned a few students to interact with and judge by answering simple questions. You’ll rate them from 1-10 on poster appearance, professionalism, communication, originality, results, conclusions, and applicability. As a thank you for judging, you’ll receive a PES logo’d gift when you arrive at the Student Poster Session check-in on Tuesday in Griffin Hall. Breakfast will be served in the same room.
If you are interested in judging, please mark your interest by responding to the question, “I volunteer to serve as a Student Poster Session Judge”, when you register for the 2025 IEEE PES GM. For any questions, please email Anthony Deese at [email protected].
